The Go To Snack!

A couple of weeks ago a local lady brought her Excalibur Dehydrators in to be serviced before her dragon fruit was ready for drying. I had never tried dried dragon fruit before or seen it in stores to buy. I have heard about it and its health benefits but I have also never found myself with an abundance of dragon fruits to experiment dehydrating them. When our lovely customer came in to collect her Excalibur’s she brought a small zip lock bag of her dried dragon fruit for us all to try. I was absolutely blown away by the texture and flavours I received from my first bite! If you don’t like fresh dragon fruit or you love it, you have to try it dried either way! You’ll either love it or hate it… I absolutely love it! From this experience we have all become customers of this lady buying one kilo bags among many locals here.

From the outside to the inside, dragon fruit is a beautiful and exotic fruit. Dried dragon fruit slices are rich in nutrients and low in calories. They have a very mild sweet and nutty taste with a slightly crunchy and chewy texture. You can snack on this unique dried fruit for a good source of antioxidants, fiber, omega-3s, vitamins and minerals. Dried dragon fruit satisfies my cravings for food very quickly with only 4 – 6 slices which is great because eating any more slices than that, can sent you straight to the toilet. They contain more fibre per serving than a fresh dragon fruit which also contains both kinds of fibre that help to regulate blood sugar, cholesterol level and for a healthy digestive system. Snacking on dried dragon fruit is also a great way to boost your antioxidant intake.
